We call our weekly Saturday morning online learning gatherings the Snass Sessions. Each session features an important written document from Chinook Jargon history which is fully transcribed with footnotes. Through our hundreds of sessions, Dave Robertson has developed a Learners Writing System.
Some of our Sessions feature newly discovered documents that are being translated for the first time. You can read these documents and also listen to the learning session which will provide you many insights including pronunciation.
We have transcribed and brought to light many of the transcriptions of the great linguist Melville Jacobs who recorded many indigenous elders telling ancient stories. Recently our learners have been learning the Chinook Pepa writing system and translating letters written by aboriginal people over 100 years ago.
